An ancient gift of Ayurveda, crafted in the hills of Wayanad.
The Legend Behind Chyavanaprasham
The origin of Chyavanaprasham dates back to the Vedic era. According to the Brihat Trayi (the three classical texts of Ayurveda: Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita, and Ashtanga Hridaya), this rejuvenating formulation was created by the twin Ashwini Kumaras — the celestial physicians — to restore youth and vitality to Sage Chyavana.
The story goes like this:
Sage Chyavana, having devoted decades to penance and meditation, had grown physically weak and aged. When King Sharyati’s daughter Sukanya accidentally disturbed the sage during her visit to the forest, he eventually married her. To fulfill her desire to have a healthy and vibrant husband, the Ashwini Kumaras prepared a powerful herbal formulation. After consuming this Rasayana, Sage Chyavana regained his youthful vigor, mental clarity, and strength. This elixir came to be known as Chyavanaprasha (meaning "the preparation of Chyavana").
This story is mentioned in Charaka Samhita (Chikitsa Sthana, Chapter 1), where Chyavanaprasha is prescribed as the most potent Rasayana for rejuvenation and longevity.

Prepared the Classical Way at Wayanad Ayurveda
At Wayanad Ayurveda, we honor this ancient tradition by preparing Chyavanaprasham in its authentic classical form, under the guidance of experienced Ayurveda doctors, using only the finest ingredients sourced from nature-rich Wayanad, Kerala.
Primary Ingredient – Amla (Emblica officinalis)
The core of Chyavanaprasham is Amla, one of the most revered Rasayana herbs in Ayurveda.
We source fresh, wild or organically cultivated Wayanadan amla, rich in Vitamin C, tannins, and antioxidants.
Amla is Tridosha balancing, especially calming Pitta and Vata, while building Ojas — the essence of immunity.
Reference: Charaka Samhita says Amla is “Rasayana” (rejuvenating), “Chakshushya” (good for eyes), and “Vayasthapana” (anti-aging).
Ingredients – The 40+ Herbal Allies
Each batch of Chyavanaprasham contains over 40 herbs and ingredients, carefully selected and processed according to Ayurvedic pharmacopeia.
Some key ingredients include:

Desi Cow Ghee | Anupan (carrier), Ojas-building |
Raw Honey | Yogavahi (enhances the potency of herbs) |
Each herb is purified, decocted, and cooked in a multi-step process lasting several days to ensure maximum potency.

The Traditional Preparation Method
Chyavanaprasham is not just mixed — it is cooked in consciousness. The steps are sacred and follow the order as prescribed in Charaka Samhita and Ashtanga Hridaya:
Amla is steamed and made into pulp.
A herbal decoction (kashayam) is prepared from the remaining herbs.
The decoction is reduced slowly to concentrate the active principles.
The amla pulp is roasted in ghee and sesame oil until golden.
The decoction and roasted pulp are then combined and thickened over low heat.
Once cooled, honey is added, and the final paste is stored in clean glass jars.
This multi-phase process ensures that every spoonful is saturated with the full essence of the herbs.
